Tokyo Orientation & Aomori Prefecture Arrival

So I have been in Tokyo for two days now and it has been breathtaking. We arrived at the hotel on Sunday evening around 7:30 PM and it was a very long hassle on collecting all the paperwork and getting into our rooms. I got mislead and was in the wrong tower (main tower) and I was supposed to be in the south tower. I met two people and one of them was John from Sydney. His girlfriend was with him and he helped me get to the right tower. What a nice guy!

I got into my room and got settled. I went out with Joe and we ended up walking around and about the hotel. We eventually went to a place called Beef Bawl, which was quite good. You pay for a ticket and then you give the ticket to the person, who then brings you your food. It was good and filling. I went back to the hotel and fell asleep.

First day of orientation was a lot of people talking about the experiences and expectations. A common phrase of the orientation is, "Every situation is different." It becomes quite repetitive.

After lunch, I went with Joe to the saving money workshop and it was boring, so we went up to the room and drank a little Baileys. It was nice and we got to rest for a bit. I went to the, "Being an Asian JET," and it was a riot. I met a young woman from my departure group named Anne and it was a lot of fun. That night I went out with Anne and people from her prefecture. We braved the Tokyo subway system to go from Shinjuku to Shibuya for karaoke and a night of fun. We lost two people the first time just going to Shibuya.

The next day we had more orientation stuff and some of it I skipped out on. That night we went out as a prefecture and Marti led us to a very nice, quaint Indian restaurant. After that, Gabriel and I headed back when it started to pour down on us. We got back and were soaking wet. It was a lot of fun and we bonded a little bit more.

Finally, the last day we got ready to finally leave Tokyo and go to our respected prefectures! Aomori, here we come, baby! We took a bus to Tokyo Haneda airport. Once we got into the boarding area, we had some time to ourselves where Gabriel and I went to get something to drink. Marti had brought with her some American snacks such as muffins and some donuts. It is also where I met Angella Lee. Angella-nuna!!! haha

The flight was only about one hour long. When we got to Aomori Airport, we were all nervous. I met Kidachi-sensei and jumacho. We then drove to Oma, which was 4 hours away... so long...

Packing... I hate packing

So I finished my packing and I am cutting it really close. Both luggages are about 46 lbs. and I am limited to 50 lbs. on international flights. I also have a carry-on and then my briefcase, which carries all my technology stuff, i.e. laptop, both harddrives, camera, iPod and everything else. I have some graphic books with me and it ends up being very, very heavy. Why me?

Last minute things to do...

Hey friends,
So it is 12:15 AM on Friday morning and after a nice dinner out with James and Katie (Indian food and I am stuffed!!), I am pondering my next moves before the big day tomorrow. I am scared/nervous/excited... I don't know if I can put the emotions I am feeling as of right now.

I still need to buy a lot of things I missed out on. Thank you Katie for reminding me on the map of the U.S.A.
